Share Your Pie

Bismillah...

So since charity is a major part of our precious deen;

and we are to behave as if we're seeing the unseen;

Why is it so hard for us to extend a helping hand;

If we were the hungry ones would we still understand???

Understand how one of the richest places on the planet;

can travel to the moon yet basic hunger can't be managed...

How do the hungry manage???

By the foodstamps issued if they meet the required eligibility;

contributions made by the state creating a pseudo doable reality...

Or by the food lines across the land distributing no longer sellable goods;

but if they're not sellable, how are they edible, for those in selective neighborhoods...

Let's not forget those who seek their nourishment from waste-filled garbage bins;

those who, if caught, are treated as if they have committed one of the major sins...

None of the above mentioned are geared to boost one's self esteem;

and it certainly brings distortion to the sought after American dream...

Many of us claim we would rather not eat alone;

but are we willing to share with those outside of our home;

The discomfort from fasting may be the worst hunger we've ever felt;

yet it's knowing such discomfort that should cause our hearts melt...

Melt for those individuals who are far less fortunate than you and I;

those who many times go days without a piece of the American pie...

Let's share our pie...
